Inspire's Christmas Letter

Normally, Dr. Maddy shares some helpful pelvic health tidbits here. But, this month I'm taking it over so that we can look back at the first year of Inspire! I think just about everyone spends at least some time around the holidays thinking back over the past year. I'm no different! One of my biggest moves was starting at Inspire and watching it grow exponentially in just a few months.

If you didn't know Inspire celebrated its first birthday in November. A lot has happened in just that first year so I asked Dr. Maddy some questions about everything that happened. You can see our conversation below as well as some of the thoughts of those of us who have joined the team since Inspire's inception.

Inspire is clearly different from other PT clinics in our area. What was your goal when starting Inspire? Have you reached that goal?

My goal with Inspire was to help as many women and men as possible with pelvic floor issues in the Mid-Michigan area. I wanted to create a practice that completely specialized in pelvic health so patients felt safe when they walked into the clinic and knew they were getting top-notch care. We are still on the path to helping more and more people. We will do our best to help even more each year.

I know you had many challenges with starting Inspire, as a lot of new business owners do. What was one of them?

As a small, local business, it was hard at first to get the word out about our services.

What is something that surprised you after starting Inspire?

I am always surprised at the body's potential for healing. At Inspire we are able to spend a full hour with patients and have the time to go all out for their care. We are able to take patients to the next level and really challenge their body to make sure their issue never returns. It is just amazing to see the progress and watch patients achieve goals that they had never imagined possible. I never thought I would find myself crying with a patient as she achieved her goal of deadlifting again after a tough postpartum recovery.

What is your most memorable moment from this past year?

My favorite moment this year was spending time with our Inspire team: Lexi, Carlie, and Michelle. It was lonely when I first started. When I had complicated pelvic health cases, I had nobody to brainstorm treatment ideas with. Now that we have grown to multiple pelvic health specialists, we are able to collaborate as a team on tough cases and push each other to be the best clinician possible.

As a team, we have shared a lot of laughs. It is amazing having a team because every person brings ideas that I never would have thought of that help maximize our impact on the community.

We're getting into the holidays so I want to ask some more holiday-themed questions. What are you thankful for?

I am thankful for my “ride or diers:” my family and my friends who stood with me all this year. My friends and family stepped up to help when I needed help the most. A few I wanted to mention. My dad painted and helped me move into clinic #1… and clinic #2 in less than one year. I am thankful for my accountant, aka my husband Zack, for making sure I was doing everything correctly from a business standpoint. I am thankful for my little sister Lindsey for ALWAYS believing in me, even when nobody else did. I am thankful for my brother-in-law Joe for helping me “go viral” on social media. I am thankful for my mom for showing me what it looks like to be a workhorse. I am thankful for my older sister Chelsea for going through female entrepreneurship together. I am thankful for my brother-in-law Jon for thinking all of my ideas are epic and dreaming with me. I am thankful for my son James for giving me the grit to push through and make this thing work. I am thankful for James’ babysitters because without them I would not be doing any of this. I am eternally thankful to my Uncle Brian for giving the best council.

If Inspire had a New Year’s Resolution, what would it be? 2024 is about to be a big year! We are ready to help even more people. We want our care to be easy to access. We are one text, Instagram message, or phone call away from getting in and starting on your healing journey. Our pelvic health specialists have several courses set up for 2024 to make sure we are providing the most up-to-date, skilled care possible to take our patients to new heights.

After talking with Dr. Maddy, I was curious about what the rest of our team might say about their time at Inspire. First, I checked in with Lexi Janson (OTRL), our other pelvic health specialist. I asked her what she was thankful for since coming on with Inspire. She said, "There are so many things to be thankful for as a member of the Inspire team. I am thankful to be a part of Inspire’s mission to improve the health of as many men and women in our community as possible. I am also thankful to have the opportunity to advocate and educate on behalf of pelvic health therapy and all of the benefits it may have for individuals experiencing dysfunction. I am extremely grateful to have direct mentorship from Inspire’s owner, Dr. Maddy Roth, as well as continuous support from team members Carlie Eberhard and Michelle Rodammer. Without those ladies, doing my job would not be possible. Lastly, I am beyond thankful for the amazing patients I get to work with every day. I feel honored to be a part of their plan of care and will continuously strive to make a positive difference in their lives, as they do mine."

The world of pelvic therapy can often lead to some interesting experiences, I've learned. I asked Lexi if she has a most memorable moment from this year and she said, "There have been many memorable moments since I’ve started working at Inspire. However, each time a patient 'graduates' from their plan of care stands out in my mind. It is so incredible to see the progress a patient makes throughout their course of treatment and to watch them advance through hard work and dedication to their health. They never cease to amaze me!"

I chatted with Michelle a bit, as well, about her time at Inspire. She said, "After spending many years at home with my four kids, I returned to the workforce where Maddy took a chance on hiring the 'old gal' as part of her team. I am thankful to be part of a business that allows me the flexibility to put my family first but encourages and values my contributions to help Inspire grow. I am blessed to be part of this team of women who are driven, kind, fun, and create the best work environment!"

I made everyone else share their thoughts, so it's only fair that I share mine as well. I’m thankful to have found a place to work that supports my desire to put my family first. And it’s not just support in theory! Maddy hired a very pregnant me because she understood my desire to have a job that allowed me the most time with my kids I could and was happy to provide that! When my daughter needed to have a procedure done that would require me to leave early or come late several times, Maddy understood and always asked how Lou was doing through all of it. I love that my work environment is supportive and that we all genuinely care about one another. I have also gotten to learn and use different skills which has been a fun challenge. Overall, I’m happy to have found Inspire and the work family here.

This first year of Inspire has been a pretty amazing one! From helping just one patient to helping 25 or more in a single week, we have seen so many people reach their goals! We are all excited to see what year two brings.

As we are in the middle of the holiday season, we all hope you are able to enjoy this time of the year with your friends and family. When you make your New Year's Resolution, think of us! We want to be your cheerleaders as you reach your new health goals.

Happy Holidays to you all and thank you for supporting us through this first year!
